Literary Club News

Crystal Tiarks – Sponsor          April 5, 2001

Note from the Sponsor I wanted to remind everyone that the deadline for membership dues is April 15, 2001.  I will need 10 dollars from everyone who wants to participate in the April 21, 2001 club meeting.  We will have a surprise author at our meeting and a signed book will be passed out, but you cannot have a book unless you pay the fee.  If you have any questions, please come talk to me before the deadline.

All seniors who want credit for their volunteer hours at Silvercrest Nursing Home, reading to the elderly there, you need to turn in the form I gave you at the last meeting A.S.A.P.!!!

Everyone needs to be thinking about what we should read for our final book of the school year.  There are so many good books out there to read.  At our last meeting it was suggested that we read poetry from different poets for a couple of weeks.  If we read the poetry then we will have to choose a short book.  I was thinking we should do something fun and relatively easy because all of you will be busy studying for finals.  If you have any suggestions for our end of the readings, for poetry or a novel, please turn them into the suggestion box in my room for the Literary Club.  I will e-mail suggestions that I receive, to all of you, and I will base my final decision on your input.  If you want your say, turn in your suggestion to me by the end of the week.

Volunteer Work

I told the Library that the Literary Club will volunteer hours to work during the book fair next week.  This is an optional event.  If you work 2 hours at the book fair you will be allowed to choose one book at the fair with a value of 15 dollars or less.  I think this is a very good deal.  If you would like to participate, there is a sign up sheet on my door.  I also thought this would give you an oppoutunity to browse new books.

It should be sunny on Saturday.  Anyone who wants to can meet me at Mansfiels Park for a poetry reading at 7 P.m.  It will last about an hour.

Anyone who wants extra credit has an opportunity to earn 30 extra points in your English class.  I spoke with all the English teachers and if you want to write a paper/book report about the book we read for last month, you can turn a 4 page, in depth, typed paper to your teacher by April 28, 2001.Everyone, including those who are not in the club, has this opportunity.  You can use a book, other than the one we read, if you choose to.

There is a baseball game Friday night at 5 P.M.  Go and show your support for your school!!!
